The main activity of the Virology Divison of the Netherlands Society for Microbiology (NVvM) is to organize the Dutch Annual Virology Symposium (DAVS). This is the main national event for the virological research community. It is very successful, usually drawing some 120 people. The next meeting will take place on Friday, March 10 in 2006. It will be held in the Trippenhuis, home of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW) in Amsterdam. The DAVS is supported by the Beijerinck Virology Fund (BVF). With this support, each year an internationally renowned virologist is invited to give a keynote presentation. Also, each year a prize is awarded to a young Dutch virologist, selected on the basis of excellent scientific performance. The winner of this so-called Beijerinck Premie gives a presentation about his/her distinguished work. Information about the meeting can be obtained through Mrs. I.M.
