Bergey’s Manual Trust has formed a new international society for microbial taxonomists entitled Bergey’s International Society for Microbial Systematics, or BISMiS. 

The major goals of the society are to comprehend the vast, undiscovered diversity of microbial life and to cultivate, describe, name and classify novel Bacteria and Archaea.  The new society will promote the discipline of microbial systematics by enhancing communication among the world-wide community of microbial systematists.  BISMiS will begin an on-line publication Bergey’s International Society for Microbial Systematics Bulletin, or Bergey’s Bulletin, the first issue of which is scheduled for fall, 2010. BISMiS will also organize meetings, the first of which is scheduled for Beijing, China in 2011.  Those who wish to join the new society or to learn more about it should visit the web site www.bergeys.org for more information.  Those who join in 2010 will be considered Charter Members and are eligible for a special certificate
