Joint VAAM and KNVM meeting

On March 10-13, 2013 the German Association for General and Applied Microbiology and KNVM will jointly organize the International Conference on Microbiology.

The meeting will be held in the Congress Center in Bremen.
(abstract deadline: November 30, 2012)

Dutch Society for Microbiology obtains Predicate 'Royal'

Delft, December 15, 2011 - Her Majesty the Queen of The Netherlands has awarded the predicate Royal to the Dutch Society for Microbiology (NVvM) in the year of its centenary. The Queen's Commissioner in the Province of South Holland, Jan Franssen, officially announced the award today at the Kluyver Laboratory for Microbiology at Delft University of Technology.

‘Tegelijk was ze ook onderschat.’

Op dinsdag 22 november 2011 overleed Lyn Margulis (1938 -2011) op 73-jarige leeftijd aan de gevolgen van een hersenbloeding,
een paar dagen daarvoor, in haar woonplaats Amhurst.

Martijn van Calmthout schreef in de Volkrant van donderdag 24 november 2011 een in memorian.

Lyn Margulis was in april nog onze gast als spreker op het voorjaarscongres van de NVvM / NVMM.

Deze week een interview met beroemd en berucht wetenschapper Craig Venter.
Vorig jaar kondigde Venter aan dat hij als eerste in de geschiedenis in zijn laboratorium nieuw leven had gesynthetiseerd; hij creëerde een volledig nieuwe microbe.

Commentaar en uitleg komt van prof. dr. Bert Poolman, directeur van het Instituut voor Synthetische Biologie van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
